PHOTOGRAPHY 10-12
- This course is an exciting introduction to Visual Arts at Burnaby Mountain. We will talk about art as well as make art. We will research ideas and look at the work and roles of artists throughout history. Students will have an opportunity to work both in 2D and 3D and will use a variety of materials and techniques. Projects will be chosen from several different areas such as: drawing, painting, design, collage and 3D construction.
ART 9
- This course builds on the foundations laid down in Art 8. Identity is explored, expressed, and impacted through arts experiences. Students broaden their knowledge about Elements and Principles of Design. Students will continue to work both in 2D and 3D and will use a variety of materials to develop their creative skills. They will explore artworks to gain insight into the perspectives and experiences of people from a variety of times, places, and cultures.
MEDIA ARTS 9-12
- Media Arts is a course that introduces key media specializations in audio, video, and filmmaking. Students will learn the art of filmmaking, its concepts and techniques that go into writing and creating films. Through individual and team projects students will build skills in pre-production, production, and post-production tasks as they create audio/video narratives. Students will also learn editing techniques using industry grade software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and more. This course emphasizes storytelling, an essential skill for careers in arts media and entertainment.
GRAPHIC ARTS 9-12
- Students in this course will explore and learn design principles, image editing and illustration techniques for producing design projects for web, print, and video delivery. The Mac computer lab is equipped with programs that are industry standard versions of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Projects will focus on topics such as: typography, branding, advertising/marketing, and publishing for digital and print mediums.
STUDIO ARTS 3D: CERAMICS & SCULPTURE 9-12
- This course focuses on design principles while exploring the art in 3D form. Using a variety of tools, students will continue to develop their knowledge regarding the ways which content, design elements, available techniques and materials can be used to translate ideas and concepts into work.
STUDIO ARTS 2D: DRAWING & PAINTING 10-12
- In this course students will be interconnecting themes and ideas from different periods of art history and applying them in the use of different 2D materials. They will be introduced to many contemporary artists which will further your understanding of world of art today. Throughout the course students will be growing and reflecting as artists by receiving critiques and critiquing their own work. They will also be encouraged to incorporate what inspires them into their own creations in order to develop their own individual style.
ART STUDIO 10-12
- Art Studio is designed for students of all levels (beginner - advanced). Students will work with a variety of 2D materials such as printmaking, drawing and painting, as well as some sculptural materials such as clay, plaster and much more. The projects in this course are designed to develop students' artistic ability and their artistic skills. They will be encouraged to discover their own artistic style and talents while exploring social and artistic themes. Students with demonstrated self-motivation and self-discipline will have the opportunity to adapt assigned class work to individual portfolio requirements and/or themes for university portfolios.
PHOTOGRAPHY 10-12
- Photography captures moments in time through light & allows us to view the world through different lens either as the viewer or the photographer. The ever-evolving technology of photography is exciting and inspiring. This course is designed to give students experiences with the creative and technical aspects of digital photography. Students will use digital cameras, to take, compose, manipulate & edit digital photos. Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and other applications will be explored.
